Conflict Isn't the Enemy: Teaching Clients to Maintain Connection During Relational Tension

Conflict is a normal part of human relationships, yet many clients experience conflict as a threat that leads to emotional reactivity, avoidance, and disconnection.

This interactive training explores the neurobiological, emotional, and relational processes that influence client responses to interpersonal tension.

Drawing from attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, family systems concepts, and communication research, participants will learn practical strategies for assessing relational dynamics and helping clients maintain connection during conflict.

Topics include the relational field, productive curiosity, productive empathy, emotional regulation, dialogue-based interventions, and the impact of relationship stress on the body. Participants will also learn how to apply the C.A.L.M. Method (Clarify, Awaken, Lift, Master) as a framework for case conceptualization, treatment planning, and healthier communication.

Clinicians will leave with practical tools that can be immediately integrated into work with individuals, couples, families, and groups experiencing relational distress.
