About this course
Geek and nerd culture is on the rise! As acceptance and accessibility towards comic books, animated series, and tabletop games (plus many more kinds of geek media!) increases, so does the level of connection clients can make to that media. This is especially true for queer and trans folx, who may see themselves reflected in these characters. Connecting with characters they hold close can assist clients in the identity formation process around their sexuality and gender. Using geek culture in sessions, clinicians can better understand what clients are going through and bridge the gap between therapeutic interventions and the client’s interests. Together we'll discuss the model for using geek culture with clients, go over popular forms of queer and trans geek media, and practice interventions together that can be resources for you and your clients!
