About this course

Workshop Themes

*Integrating Narrative, Solution-Focused, and Structural Family Systems Approaches for Relational Transformation *Discerning Cultural Dynamics for Implementing Systemic Interventions *Creative and Collaborative Pathways Toward Second-Order Change *Showcasing a Model for Storytelling as Coaching for Therapeutic Change

Learning Objectives Participants will have the opportunity to:

Revisit feedback loops in communication systems and broaden their understanding of how working with homeostasis creates new opportunities for facilitating change. Understand how cybernetics continues to influence human interaction through the (mis)use of machine learning. Reflect upon the enduring contributions of early Family Systems theorists. Explore intervention concepts through group exercises that invite storytelling. Reimagine the role of family systems therapists in a polarized climate while remaining grounded in our professional code of ethics.

This is intentionally a different kind of workshop. Among its distinguishing features is an effort to therapeutically address political polarization in meaningful ways by drawing upon family systems theory, narrative approaches, and the work of Civil Rights thought leader Rev. Dr. Howard Thurman. The goal is not to prescribe political conclusions, but to consider how therapists can remain ethically grounded while helping individuals, families, and communities navigate increasingly polarized relational environments.
