Trauma Informed Care in Rehabilitation

This course will focus on teaching rehabilitation providers core principles of trauma informed care and related tools for conceptualizing patient clinical presentations and intervening in situations where underlying trauma is affecting communication and delivery of safe and effective patient care. The presenters will provide education about the impact of trauma and stress on the human body (physical, emotional and psychosocial) and how it can impact communication and behavior. Audience will receive specific tools for communication with patients and caregivers to help problem solve in situations where underlying trauma is impacting safety, care delivery and education. De-escalation strategies will be discussed through clinical scenarios to apply these principles and tools in a relatable context.
