About this course
Trauma-Informed Care with Emerging Adults in College Counseling Centers is a professional development workshop designed to equip mental health clinicians with the knowledge and practical tools needed to support the unique developmental and clinical needs of emerging adults in higher education. Spanning seven instructional modules, this five-hour training explores the prevalence and multifaceted impact of trauma on student functioning while encouraging a shift from asking, "What is wrong?" to understanding, "What happened?" Through case studies, interactive scenarios, and group discussion, participants will learn trauma-informed assessment, intake, and treatment strategies that promote student resilience, recovery, and educational persistence. The workshop also emphasizes cross-campus collaboration with academic and student affairs partners and concludes with a focus on clinician wellness, secondary traumatic stress prevention, and sustainable self-care practices.
